According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in order to improve the management effectiveness of plant protection products in Vietnam, and to meet the requirements of production while ensuring human health safety, protecting the environment and ecosystems in accordance with regulations on pesticide management, the Ministry has issued a Decision to remove pesticides containing glyphosate from the List of pesticides allowed to be used in Vietnam (Decision No. 1186/QD-BNN-BVTV dated April 10, 2019).
The removal of pesticides containing glyphosate from the List of pesticides allowed to be used in Vietnam is based on legal and scientific foundation on the effects of glyphosate on human and animal health, ecosystem and environment. However, up to now, research results related to human health still yield many different opinions. Scientists and international organizations are evaluating the effects of glyphosate on human health.
Therefore, in Circular No. 06/2020/TT-BNNPTNT amending and supplementing Article 2 of Circular No. 10/2019/TT-BNNPTNT dated September 20, 2019 of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development promulgating the List of pesticides permitted to be used and banned for use in Vietnam, the Ministry stipulates that "Plant protection products containing glyphosate must not be produced or imported; only be allowed to be traded and used until June 30, 2021" to ensure Vietnam’s regulations’ harmony and alignment with international sustainability practices in the process of global trade.
The Circular takes effect from June 9, 2020./.
