The National Achievement Exhibition on the eve of ‘rush-hour’

On the afternoon of August 27, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh, Head of the Steering Committee for the National Achievement Exhibition marking the 80th National Day (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2025), together with Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien, inspected preparations at the exhibition site.

Deputy Prime Minister Chinh directly experienced the tea culture space at the exhibition and praised the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment for its meticulous preparation. He noted that the vivid statistics and tangible products on display reflect the sector’s resilient rise. Each exhibit, he emphasized, not only represents the accomplishments of a given period but also tells the story of perseverance, creativity, and the quiet dedication of millions of farmers, scientists, and enterprises across the country.

“These are the highlights that portray the identity and journey of Vietnam’s agriculture and environment sector throughout 80 years of nation-building and development”, the Deputy Prime Minister said. From humble beginnings to today’s globally recognized products, agriculture and the environment have remained a strong foundation, ensuring food security and livelihoods while affirming the nation’s stature on the world stage.

By late August 27, preparations for the exhibition, themed “80 Years of Independence - Freedom - Happiness” at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Dong Anh, Hanoi), were nearly complete.

The first zone, inside Kim Quy Exhibition House, features nine grand halls designed in a radial pattern, with the center highlighting key milestones in the country’s history under the leadership of the Communist Party. The main hall, curated by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism under the theme “Vietnam, Land and People”, showcases the nation’s cultural, artistic, and natural heritage.

The national exhibition, open free of charge from August 28 to September 5, will welcome visitors daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Hall 1, themed “Shaping Development”, will host the Agriculture and Environment sector’s exhibition, “Steadfast in the New Era”, alongside displays from other central agencies. Hall 2, “Economic Locomotive”, highlights state-owned enterprises, while Halls 3 and 4, “Nation-Building Startups”, honor leading private companies and national brands.

The second exhibition zone extends outdoors across four areas - East, West, South, and North. The South Yard (45,000 m²), curated by the Ministry of National Defense and Ministry of Public Security, presents “Sword and Shield”. The West Yard (23,000 m²), themed “Aspiration for the Sky,” features aerospace models and technology. The East Yard (41,000 m²) offers a fairground of products, cuisine, and entertainment under the theme “Festival of the Nation.” The North Yard (46,000 m²) is devoted to live art performances.

80 years of agricultural progress

The Agriculture and Environment sector’s exhibition provides a historical panorama under the theme “Steadfast in the New Era.” The exhibits trace the sector’s journey from hardship during wartime and postwar rationing, through the reform era, to today’s global integration. Each display reflects the industry’s close bond with the lives of over 100 million Vietnamese people.

Vietnam’s billion-dollar agricultural exports are prominently featured, from Buon Ma Thuot coffee and Mekong Delta rice to tropical fruits, pepper, rubber, timber, shrimp, and pangasius - symbols of pride that have carried the Vietnamese brand across the globe.

The exhibition also dedicates space to science and technology. Displays include drones for surveying and Lidar mapping, automatic meteorological monitoring systems for storms and floods, greenhouse gas sensors in rice fields, smart water monitoring stations, and levee inspection technology - showcasing Vietnam’s entry into a high-tech agricultural era aligned with international standards.

Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien stressed that this exhibition represents the most significant achievements across eight decades. From the famine of 1944-1945, when two million people perished, Vietnam has emerged as both food self-sufficient and a leading global exporter. In 2024, the agriculture sector earned USD 62.5 billion, with forestry alone contributing USD 17.9 billion, underscoring the sector’s role as a pillar of the national economy.

He noted that crop cultivation accounts for more than 40% of the sector’s value, aquaculture contributes about 28%, livestock generates USD 35 billion, equivalent to 5% of GDP and 26% of agricultural output and forestry maintains a forest cover of over 42%, with timber exports reaching nearly USD 18 billion. Meanwhile, irrigation projects and international-scale infrastructure highlight the sector’s innovation and resilience.

Deputy Minister Tien emphasized that the exhibition must capture the legacy of the past 80 years, not only reaffirming tradition but also showcasing new achievements to meet the demands of the modern era. He urged organizers to coordinate closely, streamline content, and design coherent displays so that visitors can easily grasp and remember the sector’s most outstanding milestones.
