The event was participated by domestic coffee manufacturing and trading enterprises as well as 33 foreign organizations and enterprises. The second anniversary featured many important events such as: a 53-booth exhibition of high-quality coffee products from Vietnam’s most well-known coffee region; a seminar on sustainable coffee development in Vietnam; a trade forum connecting domestic coffee exporters and foreign coffee importers; a seminar promoting coffee processing to improve added-value for coffee products in the Central Highlands ...

According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Quoc Doanh, after 1975, the Party and the Government have strongly advocated the development of coffee trees, especially in the Central Highlands. Total coffee production area has reached 664,000 hectares with an average yield of 2.5 tonnes per hectare. Total output of green bean coffee in 2017 is estimated at 1.5 million tonnes and exports at 3.2 billion. In recognition of the contribution of the coffee industry, the Prime Minister has selected December 10th as the "Vietnam Coffee Day" and added coffee to the list of major agricultural products of the country. Therefore, the annual celebration of the "Vietnam Coffee Day" has become an important and practical event to promote and honor the value and image of Vietnamese coffee, expand and facilitate exchanges and cooperation between coffee producers, processors and traders, and promote the development of the Vietnamese coffee industry.

Mr. Jose Sette, Chairman of the International Coffee Organization remarked Vietnam's rapid development of the coffee industry. Vietnam is the second largest exporter of coffee in the international market. More and more farmers are now growing coffee and have seen their income improved thanks to coffee production. However, the development of the Vietnamese coffee sector presents many challenges, including the lack of sustainability in the value chain. He stressed on the center role of farmers in the supply chain, yet added value creation to farmers and other stakeholders remains limited. Vietnam needs more creativity to promote and introduce coffee products to the world market.
