Policy review for innovation to improve agricultural productivity growth and sustainability in Viet Nam
On March 7th, 2016, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) in collaboration with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), organized a launching workshop: “Policy review for innovation to improve agricultural productivity growth and sustainability in Viet Nam”. Participants included OECD’s specialists, representatives from MARD’s as well as other Ministries and international organizations.
The workshop focused on terms, methods, scales and procedures of coordination to carry out the inspection, as well as introducing OECD’s policy analysis framework which will be applied for addressing the participating departments.
After 30 years of renovation, Vietnam’s agriculture has attained many impressive achievements, but there are still a lot of difficulties in terms of management, policies, food safety, climate change, lack of market’s information, intense integrating competition, etc.
During the discussion, participants shared many ideas, solutions which focused on reviewing policies to develop co-operative model, apply public-private partnership model in agriculture, support farmers and enterprises to access new technologies, international standards, branding promotion to increase products’ values and improve farmers’ income.
Concluding the conference, Mr. Tran Kim Long, General Director of International Cooperation Department, asked OECD’s specialists to revise all TORs of the Review, which must state clearly which sector to be reviewed, and send back to the Ministry for discussion and approval.
