On May 17th in Hanoi, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development organized the Sustainable Agriculture Development in Vietnam and Public-Private Partnership Dialogue (PPP). Vice Minister Le Quoc Doanh and Ms. Marion Martinez, Partners for Sustainable Agriculture Development in Vietnam, CEO of Yara Vietnam co-chaired the meeting.
After 9 years of operation in Vietnam, the Partnership for Sustainable Agriculture in Viet Nam (PSAV) has successfully deployed PPP Task Forces for 7 commodities and recently established 1 PPP task force in livestock sector. In order to enhance its operational efficiency, PSAV has made many reforms and changes to achieve new results, improving cooperation mechanisms, conducting assessment of the Task forces’ activities, thereby restructuring PPP Task Forces.
According to delegates, in the field of agriculture today, investment in the form of PPP is one of the fundamental solutions to attract investment in the industry, implementing the vision of sustainable agricultural development, focusing on developing production in the value chain, attracting investment in deep processing to increase added value, competitiveness and enhancing food safety for agricultural, forestry and fishery products.
Ms. Marion Martinez, Managing Director of Yara Viet Nam Ltd., said that on the basis of assessing models for replication, attention should be paid to building a connection between farmers and enterprises in the value chains, connecting farmers so they can get access to quality agricultural inputs with low prices, supporting farmers with loan to solve the over-supply situation in agricultural production, towards sustainable agricultural development. .
Speaking at the conference, Vice Minister Le Quoc Doanh affirmed that although we had some good models, the expanding and replication of PPP models were still limited. Therefore, in the coming time, it is necessary to enhance the participation of the state and local management units in developing policies faster and more effectively. Accordingly, it is important to promote research and apply science and technology into production to improve added value and be more sustainable; at the same time reorganize production to create value chain linkages where enterprises play a key role in leading other partners to move forwards together.
