Minister Le Minh Hoan: Applying "6 keywords" in agricultural restructuring

01/ 11/ 2021

The successes in agricultural restructuring in Dong Thap province will be applied by Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan to develop a strategy for sustainable agricultural and rural development to 2030.

Minister Le Minh Hoan

Minister Le Minh Hoan shared, after piloting agricultural restructuring in Dong Thap, he has drawn "six keywords" to apply to the Strategy for Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development to 2030.

Those 6 keywords are: "Cooperation - Linking - Market - Reducing costs - Increasing quality - Diversifying products".

Cooperation means that producers must cooperate with each other. “It is not possible to let 18.5 million strong farming households do their own work, with the lights on in everyone's house. If so, it will fall into the trap called 'rescuing agricultural products'. When we keep selling what we have, but not what the market needs, we will still have "obscure production" and will lead to the rescue of agricultural products, "Minister Le Minh Hoan emphasized.

Second, it is necessary to link production chains with consuming and processing enterprises. But according to the Minister, whether production or business, it is necessary to understand market criteria as a decisive factor for production. Because of the lack of chain link, output and market do not go hand in hand. In particular, if the quantity of agricultural products from time to time is increased too high compared to the market demand, the price will certainly decrease very deeply, even not being sold. Not only that, the lack of chain links will lead to a lack of trust for customers. "Sometimes the Vietnamese themselves turn their backs on domestic agricultural products because the origin cannot be traced, and buyers also worry about whether this agricultural product has pesticides or not," the Minister stated. Therefore, regaining confidence in the market is very important.

The reduction of costs is placed by the Commander of the agricultural sector in parallel with the increase in quality and diversification of products. "Currently, we are mainly selling raw materials, the value is not high, increasing the cost a lot," Minister Le Minh Hoan concluded.

Along with 6 keywords, Minister Le Minh Hoan also said that there will be policies to approach new agricultural models such as: Agriculture 4.0; circular agriculture; organic agriculture; responsible agriculture; Emission-balanced agriculture…

In particular, Minister Le Minh Hoan emphasized that the trend of green consumption will gradually dominate the global agricultural and trade market. “Before people just wanted to eat delicious, then it had to be both delicious and clean, but now the trend has to be green, responsible agriculture… That story will revolve around the consumption of agricultural products. We can't just do it the old-fashioned way," stressed the minister.

Regarding the Strategy for Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development to 2030, Minister Le Minh Hoan said that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is in the final stage of consulting international organizations to finalize submission to the Government by the end of the quarter. IV this year.

According to the Minister, this is a long-term strategy, not just a production plan that is only built every year or every 5 years.
