Workshop on Promoting Public-Private Partnership: EUDR and Sustainable Transformation for the Coffee Industry

18/ 04/ 2025

On the morning of April 18, 2025, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Partnership for Sustainable Agriculture in Vietnam (PSAV) organized a workshop titled "Promoting Public-Private Partnership: EUDR and Sustainable Transformation – Challenges and Solutions for the Coffee Supply Chain."

The event attracted over 50 delegates from central and local agencies, research institutes, international organizations, and coffee enterprises. This workshop is one of the key thematic sessions designed to assist the Vietnamese coffee industry in understanding, adapting to, and implementing the European Union's Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). It also provided a forum for stakeholders to discuss and propose solutions for the sustainable transformation of the industry, from production to supply chain management, while strengthening the public-private partnership (PPP) model.

In his opening remarks, To Viet Chau, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation, emphasized: "EUDR represents not only a legal challenge but also a strategic opportunity for the Vietnamese coffee industry to enhance its value chain towards a more transparent, digital, and sustainable future." He further highlighted the vital role of the PPP model in connecting stakeholders, facilitating data and technology sharing, and co-developing ecosystem solutions.

The workshop featured in-depth discussions on the impact of EUDR, global trends in sustainable agricultural production, successful PPP models, and solutions for improving supply chain management and traceability. Representatives from enterprises such as Nestlé Vietnam, JDE, and Ecotech2a, as well as organizations like GIZ and GCP, shared practical experiences, technological innovations, and policy proposals to support small-scale producers.

A major topic of discussion was the establishment of an effective coordination mechanism among ministries, sectors, localities, and the private sector in implementing EUDR—ranging from the planning of raw material areas to the development of national traceability systems.

This workshop marks a significant milestone in Vietnam's integration into international standards, reinforcing the country's leadership role in advancing green and sustainable agriculture in the Asian region.
