The market determines agriculture growth

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong affirmed: The market is the decisive factor for growth of the agricultural sector.

According to the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) Nguyen Xuan Cuong, the target of agriculture is quite high in 2020, the growth rate is from 2.91 - 3%; agro-forestry and fisheries product export is from 41.5 to 42 billion USD ...

At the Government's Online Conference with the provinces on 30 December 2019, Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong said that in 2020, besides favorable conditions, there would also be great challenges in terms of trade, market and climate change for agricultural sector, in which the market was considered a decisive factor in its growth.

Therefore, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development said that improving skills, capacity to cope with the occurrence of the situations is considered a permanent solution.

Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong affirmed that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development would coordinate with other ministries and sectors to develop measures and plans to strive to achieve the highest targets set by the Government's Resolution.

Minister Cuong especially emphasized the importance of market development, considering this as a decisive factor for agriculture growth in particular and economic growth in general. Besides EU, US, Japan, China and South Korea markets, special attention should be paid to the ASEAN markets.

"The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will coordinate closely with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, localities, businesses and industries to prepare all conditions for good implementation of this issue," Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong said.

In addition, according to Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong, in the agriculture  restructure associated with economic restructure, including the 3 product axes, namely: national, provincial, OCOP groups (‘one product per commune’ program), it is important to attach the importance to the application of science and technology, especially 4.0 technology, which is also one of the decisive solutions.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development also emphasized solutions to enhance response to natural disasters and epidemics at the beginning of the year; overcome the shortage of 40-50% of water sources in the North; overcoming the salinity intrusion and drought, which are increasingly serious in the southern provinces.

For the pork market, Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong said that they are focusing on gradually re-production of pigs in provinces so that food shortage will not occur, avoiding high consumer price index from the first quarter of 2020.
