The agricultural sector is determined to achieve 3% growth in 2019

On April 5th, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) held a regular press conference for the first quarter of 2019.

At the press conference, Mr. Le Van Thanh, Chief of Office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said, the growth rate of the industry's production value in the first quarter was estimated at 2.69% compared to the first quarter of 2018; in which agriculture increased by 1.93%, forestry increased by 4.32% and fisheries increased by 5.24%. GDP of agriculture in the first quarter was estimated at 2.68%; in which, agriculture increased by 1.84%, forestry increased by 4.2%, fishery increased by 5.1%.

Standing Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Ha Cong Tuan said that in the first quarter of 2019, agricultural growth rate was 2.68%. On average, in the first quarter of the last 5 years, the industry growth rate reached 1.95%. Therefore, growthrate in the first quarter of this year is not the highest but also relatively high. In addition to facing the African Swine Fever, market development is always the most important and decisive issue for the industry to grow and develop. This is a very big priority of the industry that has been implemented more drastically by the Ministry. Besides, while preparing for the rainy season, the agricultural industry is also facing with drought in the Central Highlands, saline intrusion in the Mekong Delta ... In the short term, the agricultural sector has had many solutions to cope with the situation, especially the implementation of restructuring and transforming the industry. For example, this winter-spring crop, the Mekong Delta cultivated 15 days earlier than usual.

Standing Deputy Minister Ha Cong Tuan emphasized that with the implementation of many solutions, the agricultural sector was determined to achieve the growth rate of 3% in 2019.
