On July 14th, 2020, China issued G/SPS/GEN/1812 notice to WTO regarding the Covid-19 inspection in the imported frozen food chain (notice attached). The main content is as follows:
Implementing measures to prevent Covid-19 and food safety: The Food Trading Guide issued coordinately by FAO and WHO, to prevent imported frozen food chain contaminated with Covid-19, General Department of China Customs have carried out emergency test of Covid-19 outside the packaging and the inside of imported frozen food containers.
On July 3, 2020, Customs of Dalian and Xiamen in China found a positive sample with Covid-19 in 03 (three) batches of frozen shrimp imported into China. In which, there are 05 (five) samples outside the frozen shrimp packaging and 01 (one) sample on the inside surface of the container. These products come from three enterprises of one of China's key trading partners.
In order to protect the health of consumers, the General Department of China Customs has decided to suspend the import of products from the above three enterprises. Products that are suspended will be returned or destroyed and products at risk of Covid-19 infection will be recalled.
