Agricultural PPP Task Force Meeting

11/ 04/ 2014

On April 11th 2014, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held the Agricultural Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Task Force Meeting with the aim of updating the progress of activities in 2013, discussing plans of commodity groups in 2014, considering scaling up PPP implementation in Vietnam, and implementing Strategy New Vision for agriculture in period 2014-2016.

At the World Economic Forum (WEF) on East Asia 2010, the enterprises, multinational corporations and companies of WEF related to agriculture agreed to establish the "Agricultural Public-Private Partnership Task Force" for the cause of the development of sustainable agricultural growth in Vietnam. Currently 5 commodity groups including fruits and vegetables, coffee, tea, seafood and general merchandise are developing effectively with the new process of production, certification and consumption, increasing productivity, output and added value. The model also focuses on strengthening the capacity of farming techniques, nutrition, plant diseases, use of fertilizers and pesticides, seed use, market and GAP practices to enable farmers to participate in the model. Besides, new farming methods for emission reduction and water-saving irrigation have also been tested and replicated.

With the achieved results in three years of implementation, the agricultural public-private partnership model in Vietnam has been highly appreciated by WEF and seen as a role model for other countries.

At the meeting, Minister Cao Duc Phat emphasized, "We're following the right direction and the orientation of the New Vision for agriculture of the WEF." The Minister expected more active and effective participation from the task forces so that the PPP model would be rapidly replicated throughout the country.

Minister Cao Duc Phat also affirmed that the Government would facilitate and coordinate with the task forces to replicate the PPP model in other commodity sectors. The Minister expressed his pride and delight in the achieved results of the task forces in the past time and promised to consider the recommendations of the task forces and direct the management/research agencies of the Ministry to develop appropriate policies for promoting the model.
