Training Course on Digital Technology in the Rice Value Chain

25/ 03/ 2025

On the morning of March 25, 2025, in Can Tho City, the Secretariat of the Partnership for Sustainable Agriculture in Viet Nam (PSAV), in collaboration with Grow Asia, organized a Training Course on Digital Technology in the Rice Value Chain. The event was held within the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation between PSAV and Grow Asia, aiming to promote collaboration under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model in the agricultural sector.

The training course aimed to bridge the gap between digital technology solutions and the practical needs of farmers, assess farmers' understanding and access to digital technology in the rice value chain, and create opportunities for stakeholders to connect, foster cooperation, and scale up innovations.

In his opening remarks, Mr. To Viet Chau, Deputy Director General of the International Cooperation Department – Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, shared: Viet Nam is emerging as a leader in digital technology adoption in agriculture, particularly in mobile-based solutions. According to the latest research, 75% of farmers are willing to use mobile applications in production, demonstrating a strong demand for technology to optimize supply chains, enhance product value, and adapt to climate change.

As the economic hub of the Mekong Delta – the country's key rice production region – Can Tho was selected as the ideal location for hosting this digital technology training course in the rice value chain. With over 2.6 million hectares of agricultural land, the Mekong Delta contributes 55% of Viet Nam’s rice production and over 90% of its rice exports. The integration of digital technology into the rice value chain is expected to bring significant benefits, from increasing product value to improving farmers' livelihoods.

Viet Nam is honored to be the first country to implement this training program, paving the way for subsequent courses in the Philippines and other countries in the region.

Mr. Chau also expressed his hope that the training course would open new opportunities for farmers, enabling them to access advanced technological solutions while fostering collaboration among businesses, innovators, and policymakers in the digital transformation of the agricultural sector.
