On the afternoon of November 9, 2022, in Buon Ma Thuot city, Dak Lak province, the International Conference of Vietnam Pepper Industry 2022 took place.

Awarding prizes to pepper farmers, cooperatives and businesses with excellent achievements in pepper production and export 2021-2022

The conference is within the framework of the National Program on Trade Promotion of the year. 2022, chaired by the Vietnam Pepper Association, for the purpose of:

– Promoting Vietnamese pepper, is an opportunity to meet and exchange between producers, processors and exporters of Vietnamese pepper with world pepper traders. This is also an opportunity for customers to better understand the production and market of Vietnam's pepper, contributing to increasing exports for Vietnam's pepper;

– Identify opportunities and challenges facing the pepper industry, better understand the production and quality of Vietnamese pepper;

– Update the requirements and consumer tastes of the import market through the lens of experts from the globally famous Pepper and Spices industry, thereby helping parties in the supply chain of the Vietnamese pepper industry Nam can assess the situation and offer appropriate business solutions to meet the needs of the import market and promote the sustainable development of Vietnam's pepper industry in the future.

At the conference, Mr. Vu Ba Phu, Director of the Trade Promotion Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said that Vietnam is still the largest pepper producer and exporter in the world. In 2022, our country's exports are estimated at 225,000 tons, accounting for 55% of the total pepper exports worldwide. However, in order for Vietnam's pepper industry to develop sustainably and Vietnam's pepper products to affirm their position in the international market in a sustainable way, Vietnam's pepper industry needs to make more efforts.

“The first is to increase the ability to conform to international standards, especially in aspects such as chemical residues, economic, social and environmental sustainable production criteria. The second is to apply production management, access and customer connection technologies to use technology systems for marketing activities. The third is to reorient the strategy to rebuild the image, strengthen the presence in important markets, have specific development strategies and measure the specific effectiveness of new product development into markets. According to Ms. Hoang Thi Lien, President of the Vietnam Pepper Association, the quality requirements of the import markets are increasingly strict. Therefore, to ensure the value of the industry, improving quality has become imperative. This needs special attention from the agricultural industry and supply chain actors. The conference also heard presentations from representatives of ESA, ASTA, IDH with information and increasing requirements of import markets.

Also at the Conference, the Vietnam Pepper Association also signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation with the People's Committee of Dak Lak province on: "Building a supply chain of pepper and spices including production and deep processing. and consumption”. The Memorandum of Agreement includes the following contents: (i) Ensuring coordination and cooperation between the parties to promote sustainable development of pepper and other spices in Dak Lak province; (ii) Strengthening supply chain linkage of production - processing - consumption of pepper; (iii) Support people to develop production, increase income, help people improve their production level, apply new scientific and technical advances in production, promote digital transformation in agriculture; (iv) Raise awareness of environmental protection and promote consumption of pepper products through expansion of linkage chains; (v) Organizing scientific research on pepper varieties; (vi) Establishment of a center for production and supply of disease-free, quality-guaranteed and recognized pepper varieties; (vii) To study the possibility of cooperation, the parties cooperate to build a pepper seed center in the form of a public-private partnership; (viii) Researching solutions for deep processing, creating more value-added products of pepper and spices; (ix) Strengthening connection and cooperation with industry organizations in importing countries, exporters and importers to seek the possibility of expanding the consumption market sustainably and effectively. Previously, on the morning of November 9, the Vietnam Pepper Association held a training session for more than 100 pepper farmers in Dak Lak, Dak Nong and Gia Lai provinces on sustainable pepper cultivation techniques. steady.
