As part of a series of activities to implement the project " Supporting Smallholder Farmer Communities to Cope with unprecedented dual crisis: COVID-19 pandemic and severe drought and saltwater intrusion in VietNam" in Ben Tre province on 16 October 2020, The National Agricultural Extension Center (NAEC) cooperated with the Agricultural Extension Center of Ben Tre province to organize a training course (ToT) to guide the implementation of the project.
Dr. Le Quoc Thanh, Director of National Agricultural Extension Center, Project Director and Mr. Weraphon Charoenpanit - Director of Crop Science Branch of Bayer Group in Viet Nam attended the opening ceremony.
In Ben Tre, the project is implemented in 24 communes of Ba Tri, Giong Trom, Thach Phu districts and Ben Tre city with 12,000 beneficiaries, of which nearly 6,000 are female. The project plans to organize 40 ToF training courses with the following contents: guidance on sustainable rice production, skills and knowledge of women's health care, Covid-19 pandemic prevention. At the same time, 12,000 tons of pesticides would be distributed to households participating in the project.
On the same day, delegates visited the model of green pomelo affected by drought at Mr. Pham Thanh Tri's household in Hamlet 3, Son Dong Commune, Ben Tre City. In the model, the Agricultural Extension Center in coordination with the local authorities immediately organized a ToF training class for farmers in Son Dong commune and presented 100 gifts from the Bayer Group to farmers participating in the training.
