Accumulated export value from the beginning of the year to 15 May 2019, fruit and vegetable export reached US$ 1.6 billion, up by 8.9% compared to the same period in 2018.

Accumulated from the beginning of the year to the end of April 2019, the export value of vegetables and fruits reached US$ 1.4 billion, up 7% compared to the same period in 2018.

The leading export market of vegetables and fruits in the first 4 months of 2019 was Chinese, reaching US$ 1 billion, up 4.3% over the same period in 2018. Notably, the Chinese market has intensified and tightened up unofficial imports, shifting to official imports and proposed requirements on traceability, granting import permits, granting export certificates and quality control by the country of origin... Due to the new rules imposed by China market, fruit and vegetable exports in the first months of the year were affected.

In the first 4 months of 2019, the export proportion of Vietnamese vegetables and fruits to the Chinese market decreased by 1.9% compared to the same period in 2018. However, the export of fruits and vegetables to the Chinese market in April 2019 sharply increased again. In the first 4 months of 2019, fruit and vegetable exports to some main markets achieved high growth rates such as the United States, Republic of Korea, Japan and the Netherlands. However, the proportion of exports of fruits and vegetables to those markets was still low. The prospect of exporting fruits and vegetables to those markets would be still huge due to high demand.

In order to increase the proportion of fruits and vegetables export to international markets, Vietnamese exporters need to do well in production, have appropriate investment and market access, must meet the standards, quality and design according to the requirements of import markets.
