Export of agro, forestry and fishery products in 5 months reached US$ 16 billion

According to the statistics, in May 2019, the export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products was estimated at US$ 3.62 billion. For 5 months, the total export turnover of agriculture, forestry and fishery was estimated at nearly US$ 16.1 billion, up by 1.2% compared to the same period in 2018.

Among the total export of agricultural, forestry and fishery (AFF) products in May, export value of the main agricultural product was estimated at US$ 1.67 billion, the main forest products US$ 959 million, fishery products US$ 728 million, livestock products US$ 58 million.

For the first 5 months of 2019, total AFF export turnover was estimated at US$ 16.1 billion, up 1.2% over the same period, of which the main agricultural products were estimated at US$ 7.7 billion, down 9.5% over the same period.

Some products with increasing export value included: Rubber US$ 662 million (+ 2.4%); tea US$ 79 million (+ 30%); vegetables and fruits US$ 1.8 billion (+ 10.3%).

Some products with increasing export volume but decreasing export value included: Cashew export volume increased 7.9%, value US$ 1.2 billion (-14.9%); pepper volume increased by 33.2%, value US$ 372 million USD (-2.4%) ...

Livestock products were estimated at US$ 255 million, up 4%.

Fishery products were estimated at US$ 3.15 billion, down slightly compared to the same period; in which Pangasius was estimated at US$ 795 million, equivalent with the same period, shrimp of all types was estimated at US$ 1.1 billion.

The main forest product was estimated at nearly US$ 4.25 billion, up 19.6%; in which, wood and wood products were estimated at over US$ 4 billion (+ 18.7%), rattan and bamboo products were US$ 191 million USD (+ 43%).

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, for 5 months, the value of imported AFF products and agricultural input materials was estimated at US$ 12.8 billion. Thus, in the first 5 months of 2019, the trade balance of exported AFF products still surplus about US$ 3.3 billion.

Generally, results of agricultural production in May and the last 5 months showed a lot of difficulties in achieving the sectoral growth target in 2019, especially in the context of widespread of African swine fever.

In order to achieve the growth target for the first 6 months of 201 as the set growth scenario from 2.7% to 2.85%, it is required timely guidance and administration, promoting the remaining room for growth improvement. Specifically, cultivation strives to keep productivity and rice production as in 2018; continue to increase production of vegetables and fruits that have high market demand so as to achieve the increasing of crop production value from 1.8% to 2%.

Livestock aims at increasing poultry and egg production by more than 10% to meet the demand of people for pork substitutes; increasing cattle production ...

Fisheries keep increasing the production, reaching or exceeding the growth rate of 2018 (6.5%), in which raising the production to over 7%, especially brackish shrimp and pangasius.

Forestry increases production value from 6% to over 8%, of which the focus is on increasing the volume of timber exploited to meet the processing needs of the timber industry.
